[ Season 2 ]

[ The sound of the TV can faintly be heard by the door, where Coro is standing, looking for his keys. After about a minute he decides to try the door without the key, and it’s unlocked. He chuckles at himself, opening the door, taking a quick look back at the front yard where Yen is asleep on the lawn. Coro tilts his head and steps inside, setting his bag down. ]

Coro: I’m back!

Madi: Nobody cares.

[ Coro smiles to himself and walks into the living room where Madi and Kemo are leaning against the coffee table, sitting on the floor, watching television. ]

Coro: Hey guys, what’s with Yen?

Kemo: Do you even have to ask that?

Madi: Yeah, it’s the same old thing. He’s a heartless, insane, spoiled, annoying brat.

Kemo: What she said.

Coro: Aha. Why is he sleeping outside though?

Kemo [ stretches ] :  He said he needed to get away from us. He then probably passed out.

Madi: Yeah, why don’t you go kick him for us Coro.

Coro: What!? And lose my foot? No way.

Kemo: I’m sure he’ll be awake by the time Luka calls us for lunch.

Coro [ sniffles, putting a hand up to wipe an imaginary tear from his eye ] : Only awake for meals, he’s a true man.

Madi: If he thinks women find that attractive, he’s going to be alone.

Kemo: Judging by how he acts, I’m surprised we even hang out here.

Luka [ pokes her head into the living room ] : You know you can leave anytime. [ disappears back into the kitchen ]

Coro: We’re all friends; he’s just the one we keep around to rip on for entertainment.

Kemo: Isn’t that line from a comedian?

Madi: Coro watches too much TV.

Kemo: I thought he just watched porn!

Coro: It’s porn if the comedian is sexy.

Kemo: Ew.

Madi: Want to know another surprise? The fact you and Coro are best friends.

Coro: Cute girls always end up with idiots.

Kemo: We’re not going to end up together.

Madi: Coro will end up with a broomstick or someone’s who’s blind.

Coro: Hey! Don’t diss the broomsticks ladies.

Luka [ calls from the kitchen ] : Guys! Lunch is ready, one of you get Yen please.

[ Madi, Coro and Kemo all exchange a look. ]

Coro: Not it!

Madi: Not it!

Kemo: Not.. Aw, damnit.

[ Coro and Madi laugh while Kemo gets up, grumbling. Screen flips and we’re outside. Yen rolls onto his back in his sleep and Kemo bends down, putting her hands on his chest before carefully shaking him. ]

Kemo: Yen, yen. Wake up.

[ Yen grumbles in his sleep, opening his eyes to Kemo. We get a view of her open shirt and Yen flushes red, sitting up right away. ]

Yen: Huh.. What do you want?

Kemo [ smiles and stands straight ] : It’s time for lunch.

Yen [ doesn’t make eye contact as he gets up ] :  Okay..

[ Flash back ]

[ In an old, yet dressed up, living room, a young Kemo is twirling and singing to the radio. She’s dressed in a fancy white dress, a cross necklace around her neck. The camera moves close to her head, her hair shining a bit from the sunshine coming in through the window. She closes her eyes, her thoughts fading in. In her imagination, she’s dancing with a shaded face prince. The prince twirls her around before pulling her close. The music in the background suddenly squeals and stops. Kemo snaps out of her daydream, stopping in the middle of the floor. ]

Kemo: What happened to the music?

[ Kemo’s mother, Vanilla, walks into the living room, placing the radio remote on one of the speakers. She sighs in annoyance, frowning over at Kemo. ]

Vil: Kemo, didn’t you hear me? I said to grab your things so we can leave.

Kemo: Sorry Mom, I was dancing and didn’t hear you.

Vil [ another sigh ] : I really wish you wouldn’t waste your time with dancing and singing. You could be practicing something that will help you out in the future.

Kemo: I want to be a singer though, Mom.

Vil: Nonsense. Only talented, really pretty girls go on to be singers.

Kemo: I’m pretty though..

Vil: Of course, dear.. But only really gorgeous women can do well in that career.

[ Kemo looks down at herself, fiddling with the tie around her waist. ]

Vil: Now come on, we have to go or we’ll be late.

Kemo: Okay Mom…

[ Season 1 ]

[ We’re by the back door. Yen and Angel are sitting on the floor. Yen leaning against the glass sliding door, Angel in front of him, shuffling cards. Yen’s staring outside and Angel gives him a worried look. Close up to Yen’s face, he’s watching the stars and thinking back to a conversation he and Luka had awhile back. The scene fades into a flash back, where he’s sitting at the table, his arms folded over the table and his face leaning on them. Luka is cooking him something for breakfast and turns around, placing a plate of food in front of him. Yen just stares at it and after awhile, Luka sits down with him. ]

Luka: It’s hard isn’t it?

Yen [ shuts his eyes, dropping his face into his arms ] : I have no idea what you’re talking about.

Luka [ frowns ] : Not having Kemo here.

Yen: It’s not like I miss her.

Luka: Come on Yen-kun, everyone can see you’re in a rut every since she left.

Yen [ peeks up at Luka through his arms ] : Yen-kun? I’m always like this, Luka.

Luka: You’re not this gloomy. At least before you had the energy to harass people and tell them who’s boss.

Yen:  So what?

[ Luka sighs a bit, moving her bangs from her face. Yen turns his head and they sit in silence for a good two minutes. Finally Luka speaks up, but Yen keeps his eyes away from her. ]

Luka: Yen?

Yen: What is it, now?

Luka: Even if you don’t truly miss her. I still do. I would be really happy.. if you brought her home.

[ Yen looks over at Luka and we fade out of the flash back. ]

[ Yen shuts his eyes for a moment and gets up. Angel blinks, watching him move. ]

Angel: Brother, where are you going? I thought we were going to play.

Yen: Later. I’m going out.

[ Yen quickly makes his way to the front door, Angel jumping to his feet and following. He stops in the hallway, watching his brother get his shoes on and open the door out into the snow-covered neighborhood. He frowns and grabs Yen by the shoulder. ]

Angel: Wait, you can’t go out there without a coat or anything!

[ Yen sighs and shuts the door. The scene fades out. ]

[ In the next town over, the camera is traveling along the road till it comes to Yen bundled up in his brothers scarf and coat. He’s grumbling, the cold wind blowing his hair backwards as he makes his way through the town. He finally reaches a tall building by a music store, walking up to the panel by the door with the list of residents. He then scans over the names and hits a buzzer under the name Blades. Turning to the little speaker beside the panel. ]

Yen: I can’t believe I’m doing this.

( After awhile, the speaker makes a noise and Kaine’s voice comes on. Making Yen mentally gag.  )

Kaine: What do you want?

Yen: Tell Kemo to get her ass out here.

[ Kaine grumbles through the other side. Yen shifts around his scarf, being uncomfortable. ]

Kaine: Fuck off Yen, we’re busy.

Yen [ sighs ] : Tell her to get out here now, I came all this way on foot. I want to speak with her.

Kaine: I said, fuck off you little brat.

Yen [ growls ] : You’re the brat!

Kaine: Ugh. You’re so annoying. Later.

Yen: Wait don’t you dare--

[ The speaker makes another beep, signaling Kaine had let go of the button in his room. ]

Yen: Fuck!

[ The camera zooms up into Kaine’s apartment. Kemo is sitting cross-legged in her pajama’s on the couch when Kaine comes into the living room, pulling on one of his shirts. Kemo looks up a bit confused. ]

Kemo: What was that about Kainy?

Kaine [ scoffs ] : Yen trying to get you to come home I’ll bet. He’s such an asshole. You live with me now, you don’t have to see him anymore.

Kemo [ blushes and smiles bright ] : Yeah, I don’t. You’re right. Thanks for telling him off for me, hunny.

Kaine: [ smiles back at her before taking a seat on the couch ] : No problem babe. I love you.

Kemo [ leans on Kaine’s shoulder, shutting her eyes ] : I love you too..

[ Scene fades out and reopens to a buzzing noise. Kemo opens her eyes, looking at Kaine who passed out on the couch with her. She takes a minute to wake up, getting to her feet and glancing at the clock on the microwave which reads, ‘4:30’ ]

Kemo: Aiya.. Who would be bugging Kaine at this hour?

[ Once the buzzing silences she walks back over to the couch, but stops when it starts buzzing again. She growls, annoyed and walks over to the speaker panel by the door. She hits the button, leaning into it ]

Kemo: Do you have any idea what time it is, buddy! You got the wrong number damnit!

[ There’s a sigh through the other side. ]

Yen: Kemo, come down here right now.

Kemo: Yen? You’re still here?

Yen: Luka told me not to come home without you.

Kemo: Can’t you guys stay out of my life!

Yen: Please, just come down.

Kemo: What the hell is wrong with you!

[ Yen sighs again through the speaker. ]

Kemo: Go home, Yen! I don’t want you in my life anymore!

Yen: I came a long way, can you at least come down here to talk to me?

Kemo: No! Kaine would have a fit if he knew I left in the middle of the night.

Yen: You’re being unfair.

Kemo: Don’t start on being unfair Yen, you’ve been unfair to me the entire time we’ve known each other. Now go home! I don’t need you guys anymore. All I need is Kaine.

Yen: I understand, you don’t--

Kemo: --No you don’t understand you bastard!

[ There’s a shuffling noise, and Kemo turns her head seeing Kaine roll to the side on the couch. She covers her mouth for a moment realizing she rose her voice. She sighs, turning back to the speaker. ]

Kemo: I’ll be down in a minute, meet me in the main hallway.

[ She hits the door release button, and the camera moves downstairs with Yen who notices the door. He lets go of the button on the speaker and moves to the door, pushing himself inside and instantly walking by the heater, rubbing his arms to warm himself up. ]

Yen: Oh, thank god..

[ After awhile Kemo comes down in the elevator, still in her pjs. She walks over to Yen, crossing her arms across her chest with a very annoyed look. ]

Kemo: Look Yen, I don’t know what game you’re trying to play but I’m not coming back. This is where I truly belong.

Yen [ turns to her, slipping the scarf off his neck ] : Really?

Kemo [ smiles ] : Yes.. this is what I’ve always wanted. A perfect life. A home with my prince, someone who loves me. No worries and no one to boss me around.

Yen:  Is your life really that perfect here, Kemo?

Kemo: Yes it is.

Yen: You know.. I think life is for living.. going through the good and the bad. I don’t it’s truly living if everything is perfect in your life.

[ Kemo frowns and Yen starts patting the snow off his coat. ]

Kemo: You have a very warped view of the world, Yen.

Yen: Yeah, I get that a lot. But bad things that happen to us, shape who we are. Whether good or bad.

Kemo: Thus I’m shaped this way, right right. I don’t need to emotionally grow anymore.

Yen: But life is full of lessons all throughout your life. You continue growing through experience. If your life was perfect, then there would be no reason to live any longer. I mean all life has to work and suffer to survive.

Kemo: Yen! If this is supposed to convince me to go back, you’re doing a lousy job! I don’t want to listen to a bunch of stories on your fucked up view on the world. Why don’t you try a more caring approach. Oh wait, that’s right. You don’t give a shit about anyone but yourself. If this was your plan to get me back, you obviously have no respect for me.

Yen: That isn’t true.

Kemo: I’m not stupid Yen!

Yen: I never said you were!

Kemo [ grumbles ] : It sounded like you were implying that I was.

Yen: I never really thought of a plan to get you back.

Kemo: Boy you’re a piece of work, Yen.

Yen [ sighs] : But look, I really fucking care about you Kemo.

Kemo: Yen, you--

Yen: --I don’t want to sound like Kaine, or those other guys who throw their words around like they’re nothing. I can’t constantly remind you how truly important you are to me, because I feel what I would say wouldn’t mean very much.

[ Yen runs his fingers through his hair with yet another sigh. ]

Yen: We fight all the time, and I know I’m a total jerk. But it’s not like I don’t care about you or what’s going on in your life.

Kemo [ turns her head, whispering ] : You’re lying..

Yen [ steps forward ] : I’m not lying!

[ They’re silent for a moment and Yen moves back again, dropping his arms at his sides. After awhile, the sound of the elevator makes both Yen and Kemo look towards it. Kaine walks out with a pissed off look. He glares over at Yen, walking up beside Kemo. ]

Kaine: You.. What are you still doing here?

[ Kaine slips an arm around Kemo’s waist, turning towards her. Yen’s eyebrow twitches and he glances to the side, moving back against the heater. ]

Kaine: Kemo, didn’t I tell you that you shouldn’t have to talk to this little bitch?

Kemo: Yes, I know.. But he wouldn’t leave though.. I thought if I just talked to him, he’d eventually leave.

Kaine [ glares over at Yen ] : Listen Yen, get the fuck out of here or I’ll be calling the cops on your ass.

[ Yen breaths out calmly, looking to Kemo for a moment before returning Kaine’s glare. ]

Yen: Fine.. I’ll leave.

[ Kaine tugs Kemo towards the elevator, and Yen leaves the building. Kemo watchs Yen walk away, camera zooming to her face. Scene out. ]

[ We’re back outside now, Yen is on the sidewalk watching the snow fall onto the empty street. He starts growling and leans forward before starting to pound the cement with his fists. ]

Yen: Damnit, damnit, damnit!

[ Back at the apartment, Kemo is curled up in the couch, watching the snow outside. Kaine walks into the living room, frowning at her silence. ]

Kaine: What’s your problem, Kemo?

Kemo: Nothing. I’m just… tired.

Kaine [ eyebrow twitches ] : What did that little bitch say to you anyway?

Kemo [ looks down, shutting her eyes ] : Nothing really, just a bunch of… bullshit…

Kaine [ calms down a bit and smiles, walking up to her ] : Hm, alright. Lets go to bed.

Kemo [ smiles up at Kaine ] : Alright, Kainy

[ Kemo slips off the couch, and the camera zooms outside. Scene out. ]

[ We open to early morning, Yen is just coming into the house. He slams the door behind him and leans against the wall, exhausted. Angel comes out of the kitchen and into the doorway, blinking at his brother ]

Angel: Yenny! You were gone all night, what happened?

Yen: She didn’t believe me..

Angel: Who? What were you--

[ Yen slumps down, shutting his eyes. Angel rushes over, trying to hold him up. ]

Angel: Yen? Are you okay..?

[ Angel blinks down at the dry blood covering his brothers hands and frowns, worried. Scene out. ]

[ Open to the clock in the living room, hitting noon. It makes a small noise and the camera moves down to the couch where Yen is sleeping, wrapped up in his black silk blanket. His hands are bandaged up and he seems to be changed out of his regular clothes. Angel is laying his head on Yen’s tummy, watching him sleep when the phone rings. ]

Angel: Huh?

[ He gets up, running over to answer it. ]

Angel: Hello?

[ The screen splits, the other side showing a nervous Kemo ]

Kemo: Oh uh, hey there Angel. What’s up?

Angel: Kemo? Why are you calling here. I thought you didn’t want anything to do with us anymore.

Kemo: Well not you, you’re still my friend Angel. You never treated me badly.

Angel [ scratches his head ] : Oh, okay? So what did you call for?

Kemo: Um can you just tell Yen that I’m sorry about last night. He was here for so long, and I feel kind of bad.

Angel: Really?

Kemo [ sighs sadly ] : Yeah, really. I should have called you guys to pick him up, or something at least. But I didn’t.

Angel: Oh.. yeah, well it’s alright I suppose. He’s home now.

Kemo: Well that’s good.

Angel: Yep. And I’ll tell him for you. Thanks for calling.

Kemo: No problem. Oh uh, wait.

Angel: Yes?

Kemo: Is Yen okay?

[ Angel smiles and looks over at Yen on the couch. ]

Angel: He really misses you, Kemo..

Kemo: He does? Oh.. well.. I have to go. Kaine is back, good-bye Angel.

Angel: Oh, okay. Good-bye.
