( Admin: I have to admit, I was a little afraid to put this one up. But hey. Ether everything is okay to write about, or nothing is.)

[ Flashback ]

[ The sun is setting for the day. The camera zooms along the Cyn’s neighborhood, till it comes to their household. The lights are all on, and some mud drips onto the sidewalk by the camera. It moves up and we see a young twelve-year-old Yen in jean shorts and a big ripped t-shirt. He’s covered in mud and bruises, shivering from the cold. He’s watching the house, contemplating his next move. ]

Yen [ inner dialog ] : I don’t really want to go home..

[ He turns a bit, looking down the street to the lightened city. He shivers again and looks back at the house where a crash is heard, making Yen jump. ]

Yen [ inner dialog ] : But where else can I go?

[ There’s the sound of men laughing and Yen sighs as he makes his way up to the door. ]

-

[ Yen walks into the living room, where the table is flipped over and a few men and his father, John are watching the game drinking beers. John notices Yen come into the house and he gets up. ]

John: Where have you been?

Yen [ keeps a straight face ] : I was at school.

John: Till fucking 6:30?

[ Yen shifts in his spot and the men in living room chuckling as they take interest in the conversation. ]

Yen: I was at school till 4:30, then I walked around town till 5:30, then I went back to school and ran into some older students, then I came home.

John: So you weren’t just at the school, then.

[ John suddenly grabs Yen by the arm, tugging him forward. Yen tries to tug away, struggling and yelling. John growls and slaps Yen across the face to make him stop moving. ]

John: You lied to me, Yen!

Yen [ doesn’t move ] : The only place I was technically at was the school.

John: What was that, you little smart-ass?

Yen: What’s wrong, hard of hearing old man?

[ John’s friends laugh at Yen’s attitude. And John growls, lifting Yen up by his arm, who starts whimpering. ]

John: That’s it.

[ John starts dragging Yen outside, his friends right behind them as they’re drunkenly cheering. ]

Yen: Let me go bastard!

John: You’re never going to learn any fucking respect, are you?!

Yen: Then why do you bother?

John: Shut up!

[ Yen begins screaming, throwing a fit as he’s being dragged. John’s friends start yelling to John. ]

John’s friends: Show that brat who’s boss’!

John: Well I did promise a show later on.

Yen [ hisses at John’s friends ] : You fuck heads!

[ John throws Yen against the porch steps before bending down, grabbing the rope that’s attached to the railing. Yen sits up, rubbing his shoulder and tummy. He then yelps as his father grabs him. John then ties the rope tightly around his sons neck; doubling the knot a few times.

Realizing what’s going to happen, Yen starts clawing at the rope. His father smiles over to his friends. ]

John: I told you he was fiery in real life.

One of them: I can see, boy.

One of them [ clanging his bottle with one of the other men ] : Is this the show you were mentioning before, Johny?

John: Nope. We have to clean him up first.

One of them: Sounds fun.

[ John looks down at Yen, who’s fighting with the rope, smiling. ]

Yen: I don’t want to play this anymore.

John: If you’d just listen, you wouldn’t be in this mess. Now would you?

[ Yen stops for a moment and glances down at himself. John moves forward and starts violently ripping off Yen’s shirt and shorts. Then he stands and steps backwards. ]

John: Greg. Hose please.

Greg: The hose? Wouldn’t it be frozen this time of year?

John: There’s no snow out; it’s not frozen. I used it last night.

Greg [ unravels the hose line, throwing the end to John ] : Catch.

John [ catches the end ] : Don’t move now, Yen.

Yen: Fuck you!

[ Greg turns on the water, smiling that it isn’t frozen and John instantly swings the hose at Yen, the end smacking him across the face and the water soaking him head to toe. He yelps and tries to move behind the railing, swearing under his breath. ]

John: Come on now, don’t complain. You know I can’t trust you to bathe yourself now can I?

Yen [ shivering ] : That water is fucking cold..

John: Well it is fall.

[ John pulls the hose back and picks it up again, putting his thumb against the nozzle, making the water spray before pointing it at his son. Yen curls up, screaming. John’s friends start cheering and yelling again. ]

John: Jeez, Yen. What kind of man are you?

Yen [ whines ] : It hurts!

John’s friends: Suck it up!

John’s friends: Bet the bitch is good at that.

[ Yen shuts his eyes, making the screen black. The sound of the hose, his father and his friends start to fade out. ]

[ In the school hallways Kemo is bobbing her head to her music and sketching something in her notebook. Yen comes up and sits next to her. She takes out her earphones, glancing to him. ]

Kemo: What did the councilor say?

Yen: Stupid jerk said I’d have to stay an extra year if I continue with my little attitude problems.

Kemo: Maybe you should be nicer to teachers then.

Yen: That’s easy for you to say, you’re too nice to speak your mind.

Kemo: What! I am not. I stand up to teachers as much as you do.

Yen: I’ve never seen you do it once.

Kemo: That’s because if I act like that in high school, no guy will ever want to date me.

Yen: Why would you want to go out with any of the freaks from this school?

Kemo: I don’t know. Maybe there’s a nice guy somewhere in here.

Yen: Pff. You’re so superficial.

Kemo: Yen! Gah! I am not!

[ Yen smirks in amusement at her outburst and Kemo starts scribbling something in her notebook, grumbling. After a bit of more idle conversation, Yen sighs. ]

Yen: Kemo, why are you so obsessed with being like everyone else?

Kemo: I just want to fit in so I don’t end up a loser like you.

Yen: I think you’re more of a loser if you be like them.

Kemo: Well I’m sorry you feel that way.

Yen: Why do you hate yourself so much?

Kemo: Why are you keeping this conversation going?

Yen [ frowns ] : Seriously.

[ Kemo breathes in and out in annoyance, grabbing her things before getting up. ]

Kemo [ walking away ] : You wouldn’t understand.

[ We’re outside the city in the park, where Yen is sitting on the grass; rubbing a red mark on his cheek. Angel walks up to him with his school bag, setting it down and sitting next to his brother. ]

Angel: What happened, Yenny?

Yen: Another girl thought I was the devil. Stupid bitch..

Angel: Oh.. what did you do?

Yen: I hit her.

Angel: Yen! Why do you have to be so violent to people.

Yen [ shrugs ] : I’m evil, that’s how I’m supposed to act.

Angel [ frowns and moves closer to Yen ] : You’re not evil.

[ Yen leans back a bit, looking up at the tree above them. ]

Yen: You’d be stupid not to see it.

Angel: You’re not bad, Yen! You’re a great person.

[ Angel smiles and Yen jumps at him, both of them moving off screen. Camera moves down to show Yen pinning Angel to the ground, looming above him. Angel turns a light red and swallows nervously. ]

Yen: Would you still say that even if I were to treat you as bad as I do everyone else?

Angel: No matter what, you’ll always be my brother.

[ Some girls walking on the path, stop to watch the scene, squealing and giggling. Yen rolls his eyes, trying to ignore them. ]

Yen: Remember what Mom and Father said. Remember what Kemo always tells me. Remember everything I’ve fucking put us through.

Angel [ side glances at the girls, then back at Yen ] : It isn’t your fault.

Yen: Yes it was! I do everything on purpose!

Angel: You don’t mean to hurt people.

Yen: But I do!

[ More girls have shown up, listening to their every word and whispering to each other. ]

Angel: I know.. deep down, you feel bad for it. I know you wish things would have turned out better. I know how much it hurts for you.

Yen: You’re so full of--

[ Angel sits up, their faces close together. ]

Angel: No, don’t say it.

Yen [ grumbles and stands up ] : I don’t like when we fight.

Angel: Hehe.

[ Yen sighs, looking over at the girls. ]

Yen: Don’t you have anything better to do!
